V nadaljevanju sage o konfliktu med ljudmi in mutanti, se obe strani znajdeta pred popolnim uničenjem, ko vojska izgubi nadzor nad uničevalnimi stroji, ki naj bi pokončali mutante. Da bi preprečili popolno uničenje človeštva, Profesor X in Magneto združita moči in v preteklost pošljeta Wolverina, da bi mlade mutante usmeril na pravo pot in tako preprečil usodni konec. Toda Wolverine kmalu naleti na težave, saj mladi Profesor X ne premore zanj značilne modrosti, vročekrvni Magneto pa hrepeni zgolj po maščevanju. Kljub vsemu je Wolverine odločen, da ne bo dopustil ponovitve uničujoče prihodnosti.
