The premiere episode features single comedy writer Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) living every comedy writer's dream - head writer on a demanding, live TV variety program in New York City, which stars one of her closest friends, the sweet, but self absorbed Jenna Maroney (Jane Krakowski). Her world is turned upside down when brash new network executive Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) interferes with her show and staff, and bullies Lemon into convincing Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan) a wild and unpredictable movie star, to join the cast. Donaghy encourages Lemon to get to know Jordan before she rejects him outright, and in an attempt to spend quality time with him, she finds herself swept up with him and his entourage in some unlikely places and positions.
Now that major changes have occured on the The Girlie Show, Liz struggles to bring everyone and everything together. However, despite his erratic behavior, Tracy manages to bring everything to order.
Confident he can fix both Liz Lemon's (Tina Fey) sketch show and sex life, overbearing boss Jack (Alec Baldwin) sets Liz up on a blind date with his friend Thomas. With Liz readying herself for her blind date, Jack infiltrates the writers' weekly poker game.
As Kenneth the Page (Jack McBrayer) quickly learns working for Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan) may be more than he bargained for, Liz (Tina Fey) struggles to keep ego-maniacal Jack (Alec Baldwin) out of the writer's room and the scantily clad Cerie (Katrina Bowden) in her clothes.
