A teenager, Andy, is working on a science project to intercept distant television signals and inadvertently ties into a series of alien broadcasts - the aliens have copied old b&w TV shows such as "I Love Lucy." Andy and his friends tune in on a newscast saying three alien explorers are travelling to Earth on an expedition to meet their inspiration. Andy and his friends find the aliens, who easily stand out. Andy and the others take the three aliens on a tour of Hollywood, but they are disappointed to find that they can't bring anyone (such as Milton Berle) back with them. Finally Andy digs up some aging vaudeville entertainers from a retirement home who are glad to go back with the aliens and entertainment them they way they enjoy.

A magician named Lou has become too old to perform his slight of hand magic. Much to his embarrassment when he attempts his tricks, the cards slip out of his hands. Lou buys a deck of cards from a mysterious magic store. His performance latter that day is amazing. The cards fly over the audience doing spectacular tricks. He again becomes well known for his card tricks. One night, however, he gets angry and accidently rips one of the magic cards. He decides to retire. His final act is simply thanking his audience. As he leaves, however, he uses the cards to perform one last trick. The cards fly in the air and spell out "Good Bye".

He sees Vanessa outside in the garden and sees that in the painting there is only an outline where Vanessa should be. He tries to go to her but she vanishes. Later he sees Vanessa again in a different pose. He remembers the he has kept is a another painting of her in that pose. He decides to paint a picture of Vanessa again, but this time he adds himself. When Vanessa appears, she and Byron are able to talk. Byron begins to paint other pictures. He has find out a way for his wife to live.

Malloy keeps getting back up for another drink. Eventually they take Malloy to a bridge and throw him off. A police man sees them and they are all arrested. Nora and her father Calvin are farmers who are digging a well for water. The two lower a flashlight on a rope down the hole. Suddenly something pulls on the rope. When they pull it up, they see that the flashlight has been replaced with a gold ingot. Calvin goes to town with it while Nora sends down another package to the "hole people" containing ham and a dictionary. When she pulls it back up she receives gold and jewels and a note thanking her, saying the 'ham' was very tasty, and asking for more things. She sends down chicken and gets even more gold. Calvin returns in a tow truck. On a tow cable, he sends down a container filled with flashlights. When he pulls it up, he discovers they have been destroyed. Calvin is upset and decides to go down into the hole. He gets a gun and puts on a gas mask and army suit. He lowers himself down and tells Nora to bring him up after 10 minutes. Nora brings him up but all that comes up is the suit, stuffed with gold and jewelry and coins. There is also a note thanking her for the 'turkey'.

The promoter agrees but figures a way out. He says that the winner will get a date with Mr. Universe. The aliens, disgusted by the human form, agree to bow out of the pageant.
