Jack Aubrey je kapitan britanske mornarice, ki zvesto služi svoji domovini.

Russell Crowe igra Jacka Aubreyja, slavnega vojnega kapitana britanske mornarice. Nekega dne njegovo ladjo nepričakovano napadejo močnejši Francozi. Ladja je močno poškodovana, večina posadke pa ranjena. Vendar Jacka, ki zvesto služi svoji domovini, ni tako lahko premagati. Odloči se, da bo sovražnika izsledil in zajel, toda pot do končnega cilja bo dolga in nevarna. Po eni strani mu ta misija lahko prinese ugled, po drugi strani pa lahko pogubi njega in celotno posadko. Med epskim popotovanjem ga čaka plovba po širnih morjih sveta, vse od brazilske obale, preko rta Horna do obale otočja Galapagos.

Veličastna in napeta pomorska pustolovščina je dobila osem nominacij za oskarja in bila nagrajena z dvema.
