Vice President Selina Meyer and her staff - chief of staff Amy, spokesperson Mike, right-hand man Gary, and executive assistant Sue - are still finding their footing in Washington D.C. Selina decides to make the Clean Jobs Commission a pet project, but a series of missteps requires her staff to work damage control.
Selina's party does poorly in the midterm election, though Selina has a successful campaign, which she attempts to leverage into greater influence for herself. A Presidential strategist named Kent Davison (Gary Cole), with whom Selina has a troubled history, returns from an absence. Selina is assigned responsibility for foreign relations.
Selina attends a North Carolina pig roast in support of the president's "Listen to Rural America" initiative. Dan takes up pilates.
When a hostage crisis in Uzbekistan ensues, Selina has conflict with the Secretary of Defense General Maddox (Isiah Whitlock, Jr.) during their joint appearance at the Marine Corps Base in Quantico. Sue testifies at a Congressional hearing. Dan and Gary fight for the Veep's approval.
Selina performs a comic song at the Vic Allen Dinner that seems, at first, to go over well. To placate Gary, Selina has lunch with him and his girlfriend.
Ben and Kent argue over new intelligence, while Mike employs the services of Jonah to help him on a special White House project. Selina travels to Helsinki to lock in a trade deal, and tries to teach Dan how to charm the media.
Gary and Amy get worried when Selina runs into her ex-husband while at her daughter's birthday party.
Selina is forced to lay off some of her staff temporarily when the Federal government is shutdown.
Selina participates in an interview by her old friend Janet Ryland (Allison Janney) at her residence with Catherine and Andrew, while her team fight to maintain her faltering image.
After Selina has a freak accident and trips out on medication for her injuries, she makes a statement to the media that could be easily misconstrued.
Selina's determined to quit as Vice-President in two years until she hears of a big decision, and then a non-decision, by POTUS; she and her team, looking for new jobs, scramble to keep up.
